Beauty Behind the Bricks (BBB) was established on May 17, 2020 by Tasha Johnson. Tasha is a former low-income resident who grew up in the Jordan Downs Housing Development in the South Los Angeles inner-city of Watts. Growing up she overcame adversity and many obstacles that have tried to derail her path to success. Her most overarching goal is changing the often negatively portrayed notion “product of your environment.” Which she has done, as a first-generation college student by completing her undergraduate and graduate studies.

She attended San Jose State University and earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration; and raised the bar by earning her Master’s in Public Administration from California State University Dominguez Hills. The completion of her academic studies has helped raised the bar for not only for herself but also those around her.

Tasha strives to encourage others to overcome their “adversity,” and realize that life is much bigger than the environment you grow-up in. As an African American woman, she strives to excel because she knows that she is termed the “underdog” due to her family’s socioeconomic status, gender, and race.

Many youth and young adults who come from lower socio-economic statuses may also face similar, if not the same issues due to the lack of guidance, resources, assistance, and supportive services (GRASS) in their community. Therefore, BBB was created to provide the GRASS many youth and young adults greatly need to succeed to break generational struggles. Donate now to support BBB’s mission of supporting individuals in the inner-city of Los Angeles.

Donations to Beauty Behind the Bricks (BBB) are 501(c)3 tax deductible. Contact bbbricks20@gmail.com to request a receipt for your donation.
