COMPETITION PROMPT
Create and submit an art piece, within 1 of our 6 SJL approved art formats, that reflects how Black Music has influenced the unique culture of your local community.
James (12) of Skate University & Power of Paint in West Philly is somewhat of a young mentor to other kids at the park. His family and mentors often have to remind James to be a kid, except for when he is drawing.
Skai (10) from Watts discovered her interest in photography by interning with our very own Jessika Jones. Jess not only captures impact, she creates it by offering youth the opportunity to explore their interest in photography by joining her on the job.
We’re asking your help in providing youth from our spotlight communities with the tools & software needed to benefit from our SJL Seeking Spotlights initiatives and any following design & photography opportunities we offer in order to grow interest into passion and guide passion onto paths toward success.

From the band programs of Detroit, to young rap artists in Watts, to the drum beats of West Palm Synergy, youth are finding their love for music composition all over the country. Unfortunately, they often also face challenges due to a lack of resources, opportunity, mentorship, and connections.
We’re seeking your help in providing youth from our spotlight communities with the tools needed to benefit from our SJL Seeking Spotlights initiatives, and any following music composition opportunities we offer in order to grow interest into passion, and guide passion onto paths toward success.
